PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Audio of an iconic Philadelphia sports moment is among the 25 recordings selected to be archived this year by the Library of Congress.

“100 points for the Big Dipper!”

Bill Campbell’s call of Wilt Chamberlain’s 1962 100-point performance is one of the recordings the Library of Congress is preserving.

And the guy who made the historic call at first was dismayed that he didn’t have a copy.

The game wasn’t on TV and WCAU Radio recorded over the game tape, but Campbell, in a 2012 interview with KYW Newsradio, said a fan with a home recorder saved him.

“He said, I taped the last five minutes of the fourth quarter, and he said, as a gift, I’d like to send it to you. He said, ‘If you’ll keep it, I would appreciate it.’ And I’m saying, ‘Oh, boy!'”

Campbell says Wilt requested that audio for his 1979 Hall of Fame induction.

Campbell died in 2014 at the age of 91.

In recent years a copy of the entire fourth quarter surfaced, recorded by a Massachusetts college student in his dorm.
